Diana Batten, RN
Nominee Candidate for the
Calgary-Acadia riding
Alberta NDP
I am a Registered Nurse, an Educator, and a proud Albertan.
I am excited for the opportunity to represent Calgary-Acadia !

About Me
Registered Nurse
As a nurse, I have spent my entire career advocating, supporting, and caring for my patients.
I have been fortunate to have cared for patients from the beginnings of life inside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit through to hospice and palliative care inside the Rotary Flames House.
I can speak firsthand to the incredible impact of strong, educated advocacy and support in providing safe and holistic care for my patients.

Educator
I have the responsibility and privilege to help shape the next generation of safe, exceptional, and compassionate nurses.

Advocate
Advocating for respectful, safe work environments and fair pay is a role I have, and continue to engage in. I have both the passion and experience to advocate for what I believe in.

Animal Enthusiast
No cat versus dog debate for me – I love them all!! <3

Nature Lover
When not taking advantage of the short drive to our stunning Alberta mountains, you will find me enjoying Calgary’s beautiful river pathways enthusiastically making friends with every dog (and owner) I meet!

Personal Care Promoter
I am an avid reader, competitive board game player, and eager traveler.

Why I Am Running
The simple answer is that I want to effect positive change and return Alberta to a province that we can all be proud to call home.
Like many, I have struggled with feelings of hopelessness and frustration throughout the pandemic. The lack of transparency, communication, and planning demonstrated by the UCP government, while strengthening my resolve, has also reinforced that my values do not align with this government.
I have experienced firsthand the consequences of private/for-profit services and as such, place value in publicly funded services that supports the entire community regardless of income.
I place value in people. Whether you are a student, a parent, a professional, a local business owner, an essential services provider, or a caregiver, YOU matter. You should have access to health care, education, shelter, a safe working environment, and a strong economic future here in Alberta.
Standing up for Health Care in Alberta

What I Value
Equity and Inclusivity
Every person matters regardless of ethnicity, gender, or birthplace
A community that fosters and places value in dialogue and not assumptions
Diversity
Proactive initiatives to strengthen our economic resiliency
Discussion, divergent viewpoints, and consensus
Integrity and Accountability
Critical evaluation, transparent communication, and the ability to recognize and address mistakes
World Class Publicly Funded Services
An educational system that will not only prepare students for successful careers but will also be a global leader in content, delivery, and social awareness.
A robust and agile health care system able to provide appropriate services anywhere in Alberta.

Earning your Vote
Experienced Team Player
I understand the power and necessity of working together with others especially when navigating opposing viewpoints.
As a nurse and educator, I know the importance of asking questions, seeking clarity, and placing one’s personal interests aside to gain understanding and contribute constructively to solutions.
Lifelong Learner
I am motivated by my own lack of knowledge and actively seek out expert opinion and support when needed.
I respect and value the power of evidence, debate, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Disarming Advocate
I believe that active listening, probing questions, and healthy discussions lead to clear understanding and action.
I have extensive experience as a committee member and workplace union representative.
